My aging Coolscan firewire is working faultlessly under Win 7 using VueScan.

Give it a try. It’s rather long but I believe there is information there pertinent to your scanner. Sign In Sign Up. These entry level cameras should be easy to use, offer good image quality and easily connect with a smartphone for sharing. I see no advantage coolsxan using the newer and better if it makes you do things differently. Nevertheless, with the inevitable passage of time, I’ll probably need to upgrade my computer fairly soon and – most probably – will be running Windows 8 going forward.

Posted September 8, Now install your driver as detailed above for Windows 7. The problem is not always with software compatibility. Randy — thank you in particular for letting me know about Nikon Scan 4.


Didn’t bother to try with the Nikon software – just went straight to Vuescan. Windows Compatability center lists it as compatible.

Google for Win7 and Firewire and you will find coolsczn fix. The Nikon Files folder should now contain these two files The screen captures come from a virtual Windows 8 machine and since FireWire devices can’t be passed through to that virtual system we won’t show the actual driver installation.

Getting Nikon Coolscan scanners work under Windows 7 (including x64)

The hub is probably able to handle what the scanner is sending, that which makes the computer unhappy. Sorry, last post was for Paul, not Mike. The time now is Interesting to note that Lasersoft’s compatibility info for this scanner only show Silverfast to be compatible with XP and machines, but it works fine wtih Vista x
